One of the most sought-after design awards in the industry, Innovation by Design is the only competition to honor creative work at the intersection of design, business, and innovation, recognizing the people, companies, and trends that have steadily advanced design to the forefront of the business conversation.
We helped TeakOrigin bring their nutritional intelligence technology to market by designing a platform that gives new insight into the food we buy, sell, and eat. Our work joins a list of recognized projects, products, and services from companies like Nike, Verizon, Microsoft, and others.
Bringing Nutritional Intelligence to Life
Despite billions of dollars in food supply innovation and trillions in transactions each year, basic questions about food quality go unanswered. That opportunity led food data start-up TeakOrigin to develop a fast, easy, and accurate way to measure produce quality by biochemically ‘scanning’ it to determine its nutritional value in ways that current standard measures miss.
TeakOrigin has amassed a massive data set on the nutritional value of fresh fruits and vegetables. Essential Design and PA Consulting digital experts partnered with TeakOrigin to develop a sustainable business model, simplified its market narrative, and created a value proposition that resonated with retailers and consumers. Our end-to-end innovation work resulted in a SaaS-based nutritional intelligence service, and the TeakOrigin guide, a web platform with an easy-to-use search interface that enables consumers to assess both grocer and produce performance so customers can buy the best quality fresh foods.

A Bigger, Better Design Story
This wasn't the only big win for the PA Consulting Family.
As with Essential, ASTRO Studios is part of PA's growing center of excellence for innovation and product design in the United States. ASTRO's design for Backbone One, an iPhone centered mobile gaming controller, was named a finalist in the Products category. And Wildtype, a company reinventing the future of seafood, was named a finalist in the Graphic Design category and received an honorable mention in the General Excellence and Branding categories.
